Bio
Phil Gates
Phil Gates was born in Chicago Ill., and was raised mostly in Long Island,
New York. While in the U.S. Air Force, Phil was selected as the guitarist and
technical
director for the "Tops in Blue" World Tour, which performed in the
halftime show at the NFL Superbowl XIX.
As front of house engineer at the Caravan of Dreams Performing Arts Centre
in Fort Worth, Texas, Phil worked with some of Jazz's greatest performers to
include:
Dizzie Gilespie, Wynton & Branford Marsalis, Kevin Eubanks, Eartha Kitt, Dianne
Reeves, Bobby "Blue" Bland, and many others. All the while gigging around the
D/FW area.
Phil has either consulted, or built recording systems for Harry Connick Jr.,
Artie Butler, Jesse Diamond (w/ Neil Diamond), Kimberly Brewer (w/ Stevie Wonder),
John McClain (A&M), Boys 2 Men, Tommy Lee,
Buckcherry, Nick Smith(w/ Stanley Clarke), Karen Briggs(w/ Yanni), Yanni, and
consulted for
many others in the Los Angeles area.
At the same time Phil can been seen with “The Phil Gates Blues Band” every
Friday night on Hornblower Crusies Friday Night Blues Dinner Cruise. In the
studio, Phil has been busy playing guitar on such projects as the Philip Bailey
CD "Life & Love",
five new CD's with artists Kellie Blaise, Billy Shields, Preston Glass, L.A.
Stlyz and Seabron, a track with Maurice White's artist Keni Jackson, and a
project for Time Life coming out in 2009. Phil has also produced a song of
his with Karen Briggs, also Phil Co-Produced an award winning Blues record "The
Blues According to Zacariah" with
Zac Harmon and has also Produced a record for Julia Jordan. Not to mention
he has three CD’s

Phil has two full endorsements with Ernie Ball/MusicMan Guitars, and Ultimate
Support music stands respectively. In his spare time, he is a published writer
with Mel Bay Publications with "Recording the Guitar" - a new book
now available from Mel Bay.
